This is the 9th year for this event which was an outgrowth of a series of media events that began fifty years ago under the title RoVaCon (Roanoke Valley fan Convention. The very first media event held in Virginia, this one held in a Roanoke County high school. The idea was spurred by students and a teacher who used Star Trek in the classroom. The emphasis went quickly to media guests beginning with Leigh Bracket, award winning screen writer for John Wayne, and Elizabeth Taylor. This event has a mascot, a cat named Chatool Starr.
